Veterinary Assistant
Job description:
Full time veterinary assistant wanted to join our expanding team at a progressive small animal veterinary practice. We are seeking a professional, reliable, compassionate, employee with a genuine desire to help people and their pets.
This essential position works hand in hand to support the veterinarian and is key to the function of the hospital.
We strongly believe in providing quality care to pets and exceptional customer service to their families. We place an emphasis on having educated and motivated staff members and provide opportunities for continuing education and personal growth.
Duties include:
- Providing compassionate care to cats and dogs including feeding, medicating, walking dogs and cleaning up
- Escorting pets and their owners through appointments, ensuring their safety and comfort
- Communicating with clients both over the phone and in person including taking medical notes and providing education
- Using computer-based patient records (Pulse practice management software)
- General cleaning including sweeping, moping, taking out trash, and cleaning bathrooms
- Assisting during exams, sample collection, vaccinations, taking x-rays, etc…
- Sample handling for in-house and outside lab-work (IDEXX in-house machines)
- Providing safe restraint of dogs and cats- including the opportunity to earn a professional certification in safe, low stress handling techniques
- Monitoring inventory
- Helping out in other areas of the hospital as required
Requirements include the ability to follow written and verbal instructions, read and write English, perform basic math, lift 40 lbs. unaided, and able stand or walk for extended periods of time. This position requires weekend and holiday hours and includes exposure to loud noises and noxious smells and animal bodily wastes. Minimum age requirement is 18 years old.
Previous experience working in animal care is preferred.
Experience:
- Veterinary experience: 1 year (Preferred)
- Veterinary assistant: 1 year (Preferred)

Pay: From $15.00 per hour; Salary is commensurate with experience
