How to Know if You Need Emergency Vet Care
Sometimes pets consume something they shouldn’t, which leaves them sick. They may end up getting hurt because of an attack by another animal, getting entangled in something sharp, or getting hit by a car. Friendship Animal Hospital is there for you in any of the following situations:
- Poisoning
- Problems breathing
- Bite wounds
- Sudden collapse
- Neurological issues
- Eye problems
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Problem urinating or defecating
- Pain in the abdomen
Getting immediate help from an emergency vet can make a big difference in your pet’s quality of life. Friendship Animal Hospital makes sure your furry companion is made safe and comfortable before beginning our evaluation. We keep you informed of everything we discover and the procedures necessary to help your pet recover.
How We Can Help
Our facility comes fully equipped to handle any pet emergencies or critical care needs with services like:
- Providing IV fluids
- Performing diagnostics tests
- Pain management
- Monitoring vitals like blood pressure and oxygen levels
Put your pet’s care in the hands of veterinary professionals who understand the importance of your furriest family members.
Signs Of a Pet Emergency
It’s important that you keep an eye out for any signs of trouble with your pet’s health, including:
- Weak pulse
- Constant vomiting
- Signs of blood in diarrhea
- Lethargy
- Dehydration
- Seizures
- Pale gums
If your dog has a hunched appearance and can’t seem to vomit, it could be a sign of Gastric Dilation-Volvulus (GDV) or stomach bloat. It’s a condition where the stomach swells to the point where it cuts off veins that supply blood to the abdomen. GDV can cause enough organ damage to cause death to a dog within an hour.
Tips on Stabilizing Pets During an Emergency
- Elevate and apply pressure to any bleeding limbs
- If your pet appears to be choking, try to remove the obstruction with your fingers or by rapping on the animal’s chest
- Perform CPR by holding your pet’s mouth closed, blowing air through the nostrils every three seconds
- If your pet’s heart stops beating, apply three rapid chest compressions to match each breath
If your furry companion ends up in distress, don’t hesitate to call Friendship Animal Hospital for emergency vet care at 704-889-7387.
